NINETEENTH MONTH
FEBRUARY 21 – MARCH 21 (2016)

COMMUNICATION

  • he put on his coat to express his desire to go outside (2/21)
  • he points to things in books so I’ll tell him what they are
  • he laughs when I say “funny” (as in “that’s funny” or “you’re funny”)
  • after taking a break from doing some of his familiar signs, he finally did his (tongue-out) sign for “frog” again (3/17)
  • he repeated “ski pole” (3/19)
  • he repeated “ski sock” (3/20)
  • he makes “animal sounds” when watching animal show

KISS, KISS!

  • gave lots of kisses & held them extra long (2/25)
  • kissing/trying to kiss 3 dogs during one outing (3/4)
  • he had an especially mellow/happy/laughing evening (3/1)
  • we did FaceTime with my sister & Todd kissed her on the phone (3/4)
  • chatty & gives lots of kisses
  • generous with kisses this month!

MOTOR FUNCTION & LEARNING

  • able to walk under table and not hit his head (ducking head) (3/5)
  • he loves to jump off the back of the couch, onto a bin (with hands held)
  • likes to push buttons on TV/VCR/DVD/CD
  • he jumped off the condo coffee table & landed on his feet (3/12)
  • he crawled all the way under condo bed (3/12)
  • he jumped up then landed 180 degrees turned (3/14)
  • he jumped off the couch & landed on his feet (3/18)

INDOOR PLAY

  • wearing boots & ski gear in the house and practicing skiing inside
  • he tried to buckle his helmet (3/2)
  • he likes toothbrushes and holds them like ski poles
  • in the garage he always wants the ski poles
  • zooming around the kitchen on skates (with help)
  • jumping on the therapy ball (with help)
  • playing with (throwing) fabric scraps

OUTDOOR FUN

  • he loves being outside and would go out as often as possible
  • outdoor roaming with his “backpack bear” and leash (it can be difficult though because of confusing messages regarding where it’s okay to go and not go)
  • mud puddle jumps (3/4)
  • stroller walks
  • hot tub swims; he practices walking along all the seats with just one hand hold
  • he loves to laugh while chasing after Eric (before we soak)

SKI WEEKENDS
At Mission Ridge our routine is:  1) Todd plays in the snow or skis with Eric; 2) Todd goes to child care while Eric & I ski together; 3) by 1 pm we get him so he can play or ski again in the afternoon; 4) he naps in the car while we do errands and drive back to the condo.

  • bottom left molar breaking through (2/26)

DAY TIME NAPS

  • crib naps were generally 2-3 hours
  • longest nap = 3.5 hours
  • shortest nap = 1.0 hour
  • he generally starts his naps without any fuss
  • 1x he napped on Eric on the couch (2/21)
  • if he does fuss, I lie down on a pillow next to his crib & put my hand through the crib rails to touch him until he falls asleep
  • 1x he tossed me his “bed friends” (out of his crib) when I pretended to sleep on the floor next to his crib (2/25)
  • 1st time making a very small attempt to climb the side of crib (2/25)

NIGHT TIME SLEEP

  • Our routine continues: I give him a sippy cup with water, read books & rock him in my glider chair until he falls asleep in my arms; then I carry him to his crib
  • he woke up crying in the night 4x this month
  • 1x he got back to sleep right away; 2x it took 45 minutes to get back to sleep; 1x it took 1.5 hours to get back to sleep
  • 1 additional time he woke up at 4:15 AM and I didn’t think he’d go back to bed so he just had an early nap that day
  • night time sleep duration was (the usual) 9-10 hours
  • longest sleep = 11.25 hours
  • shortest sleep = 7.0 hours (because of late bedtime on a ski weekend)
  • he wanted to wear his mitts at bedtime (3/2)

POTTY TALK

  • 31 poops were done in the toilet
  • 16 poops were not done in the toilet (4x he pooped more in the toilet once I got him there)
  • he generally didn’t resist sitting on the toilet too often
  • he seemed to do more pees in toilet but we could probably take him more often than we do
